During my 3 week stay on Koh Phangan I have been at this coffee shop almost every day as the location of the shop was quite convenient for me. I bought more weed from the shop than I could possibly smoke even though I did not like the selection of strains, prices and quality of the weed. There were a few instances were I did not buy any new weed from the shop but ordered a cappuccino and milk shake instead. When I visited the shop the last time I was told they did not like customers like me bring weed bought at other shops and smoke it over there. I honestly thought it was rude and ridiculous from the owner to tell me this because I visited more than 15 different coffee shops on the island and no other coffee shop owner told me they don’t like it if I smoked weed from another shop. I would understand the policy if customers would go into the shop, sit down and smoke weed bought at other shops without ordering anything. But the fact is that I am not that kind of person. I have spent a lot of money for weed in this shop (even though I did not like the weed over there and thought other shops had better strains and better quality buds that did not smell chemically and look PGR grown like high five weed ) and every time I went there and did not buy any new weed I did at least order one of their pricey cappuccinos, milkshakes and charcoal filters to help support the owners business. So when the owner told me in my last week that I would no longer be welcome if I smoked weed bought at different shops (no he wasn’t polite!) I had one of these ‘I thought we were friends’ moments. Would the owner have noted that I smoked weed bought at different shops if the buds were stored in one of his branded ‘high five’ bags? Probably not. But the fact that he asks his staff to sniff on customers, check the branding on their weed bags to find out what weed they are smoking says a lot about his character. He must be desperate as he invested so much money into his (freezing cold) air-conditioned lounge (called ‘co-working space’) and is now facing closure of his business due to Thai gov reversing the legalisation of recreational weed.
