Last week, I walked into that shop with a simple, almost romantic intention: to spend money. Ten thousand baht. Not pocket change. A gift for a friend. A gesture of taste. Of substance.
Instead, I met Solon.
Now, there are people who understand the art of conversation — the subtle dance of words that makes commerce feel almost civilized. And then there are those who communicate with the emotional range of a malfunctioning vending machine: “Yes.” — “No.” That was the full symphony. No elaboration. No warmth. No curiosity. Just monosyllabic indifference served cold.
I asked questions. He rationed syllables.
I sought guidance. He offered dismissal.
I brought purchasing power. He brought apathy.
One would assume that someone prepared to leave 10,000 baht in your establishment might warrant a flicker of engagement. A trace of professionalism. Apparently, in this shop, customer service is treated like an optional accessory. decorative in theory, absent in practice.
But the crescendo came at the end.
After enduring this glacial display of social incompetence, Solon had the audacity to ask me for a five-star review. With his name attached.
There is something almost poetic about that level of delusion. First, you treat a customer like an inconvenience interrupting your afternoon. Then you request public applause.
No.
My ten thousand baht will find a far more deserving home. As will my loyalty.
If you value courtesy, competence, and complete sentences, I suggest you do the same.
